If you are reading any self-improvement article titled, "Getting Started", then you most likely visualize yourself or your lifestyle as being out-of-balance, or maybe worse, out-of-control. Before even reading further, visualize yourself as the person you want to be. This is not an exercise and this Getting Started Guide does not include any visualization techniques. It is mentioned because today is the day that you are moving toward perfect balance. Now is the time to settle down and focus on yourself. This Getting Started Guide is simplistic on purpose. It is very important that you experience success easily and immediately. Different personalities deal with less-than-perfect success in different ways. In the beginning stages of change you must implement achievable processes before moving on to more. You have surely heard the phrase, "Don't bite off more than you can chew". Well, this statement is true when effecting change in your life. The first stage of finding balance in your life is focused on Attitude. Unless some physical or dietary component of your life creates such a mindset as to be totally incapable of attitudinal change, this is very simple and straight forward. The separate components are not itemized as step 1, step 2, etc, because these are not individual steps, they are unified components of "Getting Started". You need to start them all at once and do them all together. Example; there is no need to master Postive Thinking before moving on the Gratitude. Start living this lifestyle in unison.
You will notice positive changes in your mood, and dietary and sleeping habbits. The important thing to emphasize here is that the processes themselves is what is of most importance, not the immediate effects. With the passing of time and regular practice of these positive lifestyle components, the effects will come and enhance. Positive Thinking First, love and respect yourself. Nobody deserves love and respect as much as you do. When your thoughts project a more positive attitude your state-of-mind will become more positive and you will begin to feel the more positive emotions; hope, happiness, contentment, fulfillment . . . You must empty your mind of negative thought and responses. This includes offering respect and empathy for those people who do not share your ideals. Gratitude Think of the act of Gratitude as the positive affirmation of an event that is taking place, has taken place or is about to take place. Forgiveness Harbor no resentment. This is critical. Acts upon you, that you experience as hurt, may cause deep negative emotion such as anger, sadness and self-doubt. This negative emotion can lead to resentment, and other hostilities not only toward those who hurt you but as a general judgement of mankind. Foregiveness offers you a release from the negative emotion bound to you by these hurtful acts. Daily Affirmations Your emotional mood or state-of-mind is inseparable from the pattern of thoughts that you have. Your mood will effect the constant mental stream of thoughts and influence the events that occure in your life, good or bad. It is important that your thoughts are positive if you want positive events to come your way. To promote a positive mood, change the way you think, beginning with the way you think about yourself. Reciting Positive Affirmations will change the way you think about yourself, effecting a more a positive outlook and your pattern of thought will become more positive, resulting in the perception of more positive events in your life. Monitoring your Self-Talk Self-talk is the constant stream of thoughts that run through your head. This self-talk is a good measure for your overall outlook on life. A positive stream of thoughts suggest a positive outlook on life, which is what we want. Monitor your self-talk. Practice these simple and effective techniques for one month. Keep a journal if you would like. Evaluate your mood and self-talk at the end of the first month and see what you think. You should feel more at ease with less stress, less resentment, and a general feeling of well-being. You will notice that your self-talk is regularly more positive. This is a clear and important sign that you are becoming more positive.
If you think you need a little more time at this level, certainly remain at this level for a longer period before continuing to the next step. There is no hurry. It is best to feel comfortable with your success before adding more changes to your regular routine.
